How to Become a EMCS Distinguished Lecturer

The EMC Society's Distinguished Lecturer (DL) Program provides speakers on various aspects of electromagnetic compatibility for EMC Society chapter meetings and similar functions. DLs are reimbursed for certain travel expenses up to a recommended limit of $750 per engagement. While presentations to groups outside of the EMC Society and the IEEE are encouraged, the program is not intended for national or international EMC symposiums, regional conventions, local colloquiums, trade shows, or commercial seminars. (DLs may speak at these functions, but their expenses cannot be reimbursed from DL funds.)

Distinguished Lecturers must:

Membership in the EMC Society's Distinguished Lecturer program shall not be used in the advertising of products or services, nor for any non- approved presentations such as product or training seminars or trade shows. Distinguished Lecturers may not, as part of any DL presentation, advertise, market, or offer for sale any commercial product or service.

The program currently consists of four Distinguished Lecturers, selected by the Program Chairman from written nominations or application from EMC Society members, and approved by the EMC Society Board of Directors. The term for each Distinguished Lecturer is two years. Currently all terms start and end at the turn of a calendar year. Selection is based on:

Interested applicants should submit a package of supporting information to the DL program chair prior to July 1 for terms beginning at start of the next year, or otherwise by special arrangement. As a minimum, these packages should contain:

  1. A cover letter stating why you want to be a DL and what you have to offer. Specifically, you should list and describe the topics you are willing to speak about. Please provide two or more topics.
  2. A resume or other brief, factual summary of your qualifications and how to contact you.
  3. One or more letters of recommendation from EMC Society members.

Other useful information includes announcements for previous speaking engagements, outlines or summaries of talks already prepared, lists of publications, etc. This package will be submitted to the EMCS Board of Directors for their review and action.
