Job Description:
As part of our global team you will be responsible for Electro-magnetic
Compatibility (EMC) Engineering by:
- Ensuring electronic product EMC compliance to automotive EMC standards
- Reviewing conceptual product designs for EMC risks
- Reviewing mechanical enclosure and shielding designs
- Improving schematics and PCB layouts by reviewing them with the designers
- Performing EMC simulations using Mentor Graphics Hyperlynx, CST
PCBStudio, MicroStripes & CableStudio
- Correlating simulation models to physical test measurements
- Performing EMC pre-compliance testing according to internal JCI test
methods
- Collaborating with Johnson Controls’ EMC experts around the world
- Presenting EMC investigation reports to internal JCI program team and OEM
customer audiences
- Presenting EMC training concepts internally to JCI engineering staff (ie.
Hardware, PCB & Mechanical design teams)
Job Requirements:
- A positive attitude and self-starter with:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field
- Prefer at least 4 or 5 years of engineering experience
- Good practical knowledge of CAD/ CAE tools (preferably Mentor Graphics &
CST tools)
- Previous experience with solving EMC issues by performing simulations,
running tests, analyzing and reporting status
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to successfully interact and communicate with people from other
cultures and those who speak other languages
- Experience with Labview is preferred
- Desire to gain new knowledge and skills

Job Description:
Manage all lab activities at the Rochester location including customers, associates and general lab support. Interfaces with team members from the division business units. Works with engineers, laboratory technicians and prototype machinists.
- Work independently to perform commercial EMI testing of electronic equipment in accordance with FCC, EN, FDA and other international emission and immunity specifications.
- Perform shielding effectiveness tests in support of Chomerics products.
- Prepare Test Procedures and Test Reports.
- Interpret results of EMI data to develop recommendations to customer regarding to EMI packaging, mechanical design and printed circuit board layout.

- Perform EMI tests on various types of equipment, which include ITE, medical equipment, laboratory equipment etc.
- Prepare detail test plans and test reports.
- Plan, schedule, assign and supervise the work of laboratory technicians and other assigned laboratory personnel.
- Collaborate with engineers on the design and construction of pilot models, special test equipment and testing procedures on new products.
- Instruct, assist and inspect work to insure compliance with engineering specifications.
- Check test set-ups and tolerances and devices.
- Supervise the testing of manufactured components and units for quality control purposes.
- Maintain records and files.
- Prepare required reports.
- Maintain proper communications, administration, discipline, and other day-to-day procedures.
- Perform other duties necessary to accomplish job objectives.
- Must continuously maintain the highest degree of customer service, throughput, quality, cost reduction and people productivity.
Job Requirements:
- Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) degree required
- NARTE EMC Certification is preferred
- MIL-STD-461 test knowledge is preferred
- 3-5 years experience in an industrial lab function

Required Skills include at least 2 of the following:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience designing analog and digital products to meet Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, using analytical tools and models for interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity and circuit/cable interference isolation to mitigate and control conducted and radiated emissions and susceptibility stimuli. They can demonstrate a clear understanding of EMI control techniques as well as testing and qualification procedures.
Their experience will include successful EMC designs, high quality EMC test plans, effective EMI troubleshooting and extensive EMC qualification testing. Experience with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-704E, & DO-160 a plus.
The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with other design disciplines as well as manufacturing to create design solutions that address often conflicting requirements. Teamwork and effective communication are key to optimizing product solutions.
Success in this position will require strong interpersonal and facilitation skills as well as excellent organization and multi-tasking abilities. Experience as a team lead or supervisor is a plus.
Department Organization:
This position reports to the Manager of Electrical Engineering and will be part of a team of 15 electrical engineers, in an 80 member engineering organization.
Performance Objectives:
- Systems Analysis: Analyze projects as assigned, to determine best approach. Evaluate how to leverage existing products in order to develop cost effective solutions. Work with managers & other engineers to determine area of responsibility.
- Requirements Development: Work with systems engineering to develop EMC requirements and designs that meet project goals. The engineer needs to ensure that product requirements do not compromise scheduled final product delivery target dates.
- Design: Based on requirements, interfaces and existing designs, develop and document the design that will meet project goals quickly & efficiently. Present design for review by peers and management.
- Implementation: Realize design intent in hardware products. Work with Designer Engineer to insure product meets EMC functional & mechanical requirements.
- Project Reviews: Meet with the project team on a on-going basis to discuss project progress, obstacles and solutions. Identify any problems discovered and recommend solutions. Meet project milestone deadlines on or before scheduled completion dates.
- Test: Using tools, simulators, and hardware prototypes, test products to insure requirements and design intent is met. Conduct on site or off site EMI pre-qualification and qualification testing.
- Systems Integration: Work with other engineering disciplines to integrate hardware into complete system, support system testing and release designs to production. Support NPI process during transition to production.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to process development / improvement. Analyze data to develop metrics and measurements that will be used to track and improve quality and productivity.
- As an ISO Certified Company, it is important to follow and improve internal process to ensure proper conformance to established policies and procedures and support our ISO quality system by assisting in the development of quality system documentation.
ADA Requirements:
- Able to work with office & test equipment, computers & peripherals, in a standard office & computer lab environment.
- This person must be creative, open-minded, a good communicator, and a good listener. Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical personnel. Must be able to work in fast paced, schedule driven environment.

Basic Qualifications & Education:
- An EMI engineer needs to have a BS degree and a minimum of 5 years design and EMI testing experience. Must have industry experience.
- This person must be a strong EMI designer both in the analog and digital space. Experience with servo control and video transmission desirable.
- Due to the nature of the products, the candidate must possess strong mechanical, mathematical, & geo-spatial comprehension skills.
- It is possible that this position may require a security clearance; applicants must meet eligibility requirements to obtain access to classified information.

Google is seeking an EMC Design Engineer in Platforms Engineering who will play a key role in the development of one of the world’s most impressive computing infrastructures! Your objective will be to collaborate closely with our Hardware Design Teams to develop, test and qualify products to be compliant with the relevant worldwide EMC standards and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in EE, preferred, M.S. or PhD in EMC or related discipline desirable.
- At least 8 years hands-on EMC Design experience preferably with information Technology Equipment. Strong technical background and analytical knowledge of EMC and high speed design principles coupled with familiarity with a variety of software modeling tools.
- Good general understanding of hardware design constraints and tradeoffs and an ability to find cost effective work-arounds where feasible. Ability to simultaneously investigate multiple avenues to solve problems.
- Expert knowledge of international standards and procedures related to obtaining worldwide product certifications (e.g. FCC, CISPR, ICES, VCCI, etc.)
- Familiarity with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, LISN’s, network analyzers, current probes, etc.
- Excellent understanding of product delivery lifecycles in a dynamic fast paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
