About Me

Dr. Norgard is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado (CU) and the Chief Engineer for E3/JETS at NASA/JSC.  He was the Chief Scientist at AFRL/RRS, a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Air Force Academy, Director of the Microwave Anechoic Chamber at CU, a Visiting Professor at the Tel-Aviv University and the AFRL/PRS at KAFB, and a member of the Technical Staff of the Bell Telephone Laboratories.  He was an Adjunct Professor at Syracuse University and he is now an Adjunct Professor at the U of Houston.

John was the EAS Dean, the MAE Chair, and the ECE Chair at CU, a Professor at Georgia Tech, and a Post-Doctoral Fellow at NDRE in Oslo.  He worked at NASA/JPL while studying at Caltech and was a Co-Op student at Georgia Tech while working at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and Polaris Submarine Base.

John is a Life Fellow of IEEE for IR Thermography/Holography and was an AFRL Research Fellow and an Associate Editor of the IEEE/EMC Transactions.  He is also on the Board of Directors of ACES.

John is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and a Life Member of the IEEE/EMC Society.  He has been a member of the EMC Board of Directors for 12 years.  He was the Vice President for Technical Services (3 terms) and Vice President for Standards (1 term).  He has received several IEEE/EMC Society Service Awards and an IEEE Microwave Theory & Techniques Outstanding Service Award.  He has been the Co-Chair of several IEEE/EMC Society Conferences, has written several hundred journal articles and conference papers, and is the author of several chapters in four EM books.

 

Nominee Statement (not to exceed 150 words in length)
I will apply my academic experience (in teaching, research, and service) to the job of (i) teaching EMC principles to our membership through tutorials, workshops, and demos, (ii) publishing papers at the EMC conferences, and (iii) serving the Society as an active Board Member.  I will help with the tasks of the Technical Committees and the Standards Committees, especially the educational and student training activities, the representative advisory activities, and the IEEE Fellow Selection Committee.  I will continue to serve as the Chair of the Standards SACCom Committee.
